Today read: 1 Corinthians 13 – whole chapter, then read it again.
We have all seen some form of this popular “love is” scripture from wedding celebrations to the walls in our homes. But do we really read it? Study it? Make it our life in all situations? If you don’t, start now.
I’ve been reading and rereading it the past week and it’s been teaching me so much. Some hard stuff, about my own heart.
We all want love to be patient, kind, gentle and unselfish with us… right!? but do we make our love patient, kind and gentle always toward others? Is it a safe place of shelter for people around us, people in our own home? Right now you might be thinking.. Shannon, you don’t know my husband or my kids don’t listen to me or my family is nonbelievers and it’s hard…
I get it. It’s not always easy. Do it anyway.
Because if we are living a life of words without actions, we are no better than a clanging cymbal. A noise maker that everyone around us will ignore and eventually just tune out. You may be saying all the right stuff, but if the way you live says the opposite, they won’t listen.
Action is required.
Don’t just preach the gospel, live it out!
Lord today we come to you with humble, honest hearts and we thank You for the gift of Your word that you freely give us. We ask that you help us to live the life we preach, that we always show people the way to Your love and salvation with our actions, our everyday life will point everyone we encounter to You Lord! Give us strength and patience to endure the criticism and sometimes hatefulness of the world and the ones closest to us. Help us Lord to bless them even more. Lord we ask that you make our voice the sound of heaven calling, so everyone around us can’t help but tune in and listen with open hearts!! In Your holy name we pray, Amen
