Change.

When I was a little girl my Aunt and Uncle had this amazing rope swing in the big tree on their farm. It was so exhilarating and fun to swing on that rope. I was praying to remember that feeling the last few weeks. Last summer my husband put a rope in a tree for all the kids that come and go here.

I was watching our nieces play one day, and I was watching the different ways they approached the swing based on their age. Molly(age 6) ran and jumped with out any worry, squealing and proclaiming “this is the best day ever”!! Jillian(age 10) was next, she stood back a few minutes and watched. I was watching her too, and I will admit I was a little sad at her apprehension. Year by year the world steals our wonder and plants worry and “what if” in the mind. We have to surrender that place in our heart and let Jesus replace it with childlike wonder once again. It’s a process, that I’ve learned has to be learned on ones own along their journey. I wanted to grab her and say run, sing, jump, play, laugh… no worries! But I let her ease into it, she eventually ran, jumped and laughed too!

With each year it seems to take longer to surrender some things, especially in the face of change. Change is coming to Emerald Hill, with each passing day. Our youngest baby bird turns 16 today, and one will leave the nest this year too. Just a couple short years left in this season of motherhood for me. It’s so hard some days, and it’s exciting others. But I have to surrender my need to control and my own plans daily, I have to choose to run and jump and swing and trust that my heavenly father is faithful to finish all He starts- in my children, husband and in myself.

Farm life around here is changing too, as we look forward to more time and freedom but also thank God for the years He allowed us to tend to and grow this beautiful life.

Stay tuned in the coming days I will share more changes on the horizon. I will share changes coming to this blog space, more about the book I’m working on, also up coming missions, and baby goats for sale too.

Love you all, Shannon
